The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (Fulbright TGC) is funded by the U.S. Department of State, and administered by IREX in the United States and by the Fulbright Finland Foundation in Finland. The program strives to build capacities of U.S. K-12 educators to develop skills to prepare students for a competitive global economy. The program provides educators with an intensive 2-week program in Finland to learn about and share best educational practices through briefings, panel discussions, visits to schools, and networking events.
Please note that this site and the program agenda is for your personal use only, and not to be shared!

Packing tips
- November can be the darkest month of the year in Finland. Please have a look at the weather forecast when packing.
- We recommend packing different types of layers as the weather can change daily and can be quite cold. During the program we will be spending time outside in nature, so please remember to pack warm outdoor clothing.
- Winter hats and scarves are recommended as well as warm and water resilient shoes and gloves. You should consider bringing a set of outdoor pants with you.
- We will be doing a substantial amount of walking during the program so we recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes that can be used on outdoor trails as well.
- You will also be introduced to the most Finnish experience during the program - sauna. Please pack a swimsuit with you.
- Finnish hotels have hairdryers in the rooms so there is no need to bring one from the U.S.
- Electric sockets are different in Finland, so remember to pack an adapter as well as a converter for electronics that you will need during your stay.
- Please also bring your COVID-19 vaccination certificate with you just in case.
- For traveling, we recommend bringing at the maximum one big suitcase that goes to the cargo hold and one carry-on luggage, and a purse/laptop bag.
- Credit cards are widely accepted. Visa and Master Card are probably the most common ones here. We recommend you notify your credit card company/bank of your travel destinations/dates closer to the dates of travel so that once you start spending money, they don't place any holds or fraud alerts on your cards. Also take a photocopy/picture of your credit cards just in case. You will be able to exchange some cash at the airport or take cash out from the ATM.
Dress code:
- Day-to-day wear can be casual or business casual during most days.
- For the reception in Joensuu business attire is appropriate.
