Join us for a special alumni event in Turku on Saturday, October 12, 2024! Connect with fellow alumni and current U.S. grantees and enjoy some interesting activities in the city.
Program:
12:45 Short Walking Tour Starting from the University of Turku Campus
We will meet outside the University’s Main Building after the end of the American Voices Seminar at 12:45. A local Fulbright Finland alum will lead us on an informal stroll through the university quarters of Turku, sprinkled with stories from Finnish academic life, politics and traditions.
13:30 Lunch at Restaurant Kellariravintola
At the end of the tour, we will make our way to the lunch restaurant Kellariravintolat along the river front. The buffet lunch is self-paid and costs 21 €/person.
15:00 Guided Tour at ABOA VETUS – ARS NOVA
Uncovering history of life from medieval Turku as well as the contemporary art exhibition "Us And Them – from near and far". The guided tour is sponsored by the Foundation, and the entrance fee is self-paid (11 € without the museum card).

Alumni Event at Bluefors Oy

The ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association members visited Bluefors Oy, a global company enabling the quantum computing breakthrough. The visit was hosted by a Fulbright Fellow 2010-11, Benjamin Alldritt, who works as Research and Development Scientist at Bluefors focusing on new cooling solutions for quantum computing and related fields. The visit took place at the Bluefors’ global headquarters in Helsinki, that hosts physicists, engineers, and production and business professionals at the company’s award-winning facilities.
Alumni were able to learn about the fascinating innovations and activities of Bluefors and get a guided tour of the cryostat production and assembly hall.
Alumni Event at MTV
March 25, 2024
The ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association members visited Finland’s leading commercial TV Company MTV Oy. The event was hosted by Leia Ahlström, ASLA-Fulbright Graduate Grantee 2020-21, who works as General Counsel at MTV. Members got to tour one of the most modern filming and news studios in Europe led by former news anchor and Executive Editor-in-Chief Tomi Einonen. During the visit, we learned about how news, sports, and current affairs programs are produced on-site.
Alumni Event at the Helsingin Sanomat's Editorial Office

The ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association provided its members and current U.S. Fulbright grantees a unique opportunity to visit the main editorial office of the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper. HS is the largest newspaper in the Nordic countries.
The event was hosted by a Fulbright Finland Alumna Pauliina Siniauer who works at HS as a reporter and a producer in the investigative team of HS and by Chief Editor Laura Saarikoski who is a former U.S. correspondent for HS. During the visit, alumni and grantees learned about the exciting and impactful work of HS, the differences between U.S. and Finnish media, and also had an opportunity to network with fellow Fulbright Finland Foundation alumni and grantees.
Alumni Happy Hour in Turku

The Association organized an Alumni Happy Hour event in conjunction with the American Voices Seminar in Turku for the alumni and current U.S. grantees on October 6. at 20.00. The event was organized at the Brewery Restaurant Koulu, which is an old school at the center of Turku that has been transformed into one of Finland’s largest brewery restaurants.
ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association Welcome Event -Tervetulotilaisuus

The ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association organized the Welcome Event in honor of the newly arrived 2023-24 U.S. Fulbrighters as well as the 2022-23 grantees who had recently completed their grant term in the U.S. and returned to Finland.
Alumni from various fields and backgrounds met over musical programs and light refreshments. This event provided an excellent opportunity to network and connect with the other Fulbright Finland community members and learn more about the alumni activities.

Virtual Welcome to Finland -Buddy Welcome Event

80 grantees and alumni gathered virtually in the Virtual Welcome to Finland event in late August. The event was organized in collaboration by the ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association and the Fulbright Finland Foundation to introduce the U.S. grantees to their buddies in Finland. The aim of the event was to share information on the program and hear alumni experiences from both Finns and Americans. Due to the pandemic, the event was organized virtually instead of in person.
Virtual Welcome to Finland - Fulbright Buddy Event

The ASLA-Fulbright Alumni Association in cooperation with the Fulbright Finland Foundation organized a Virtual Fulbright Buddy Event to introduce the U.S. grantees to their buddies in Finland. The aim of the event was to share information on the program, hear alumni experiences from both Finns and Americans as well as to connect the U.S. grantees and buddies virtually before the grantees' arrival to Finland.
