LUT University Campuses
Lappeenranta
Lappeenranta, a city of 72 000 residents located in South-east Finland, combines a cozy small town atmosphere with full-scale urban comforts. It is located by Lake Saimaa, the fourth largest lake in Europe.
LUT University’s green and modern campus in the district of Skinnarila offers a compact combination of all of the services students need. Most student apartments are located within walking distance, and the university offers everything from laboratories to library services and from restaurants to health care – literally under one roof. The campus is roughly seven kilometres from the city center, and buses run every 15 minutes.
Skinnarila has excellent sports and recreation venues. The campus houses several gyms, and group fitness classes are available almost daily. Moreover, Lake Saimaa and its surroundings provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities.
There are five lunch restaurants that offer student discounts on the campus. In addition, there is a café and convenience store.
The City of Lappeenranta shares our vision on sustainability. The city is continuously developing renewable energy and green technology solutions for urban living.
Lahti
Lahti, a city of 120 000 residents, is known for its sports venues and is appreciated around the world for its design expertise and high-quality cultural events. The three core issues of the city’s competitiveness strategy are the circular economy, a combination of design and digitalization, and an active lifestyle and sports.
In the Lahti region, you can experience both vibrant urban life and nature’s tranquility. It offers the best of both worlds: the attractiveness, intimate coziness and originality of a small town, yet the services, efficiency and logistics of a major city.
LUT University’s Lahti campus is located in the district of Niemi, three kilometers from the Lahti city center. The new campus is a modern learning environment built in an old factory. Mixing the old and the new provides a unique and inspiring setting for learning and work.

What is the Fulbright Finland Foundation?
The Fulbright Finland Foundation is a private, independent, not-for-profit organization based in Helsinki, Finland. The Foundation’s aim is
- to promote a wider exchange of knowledge and professional talents through educational contacts between Finland and the United States, and
- to support the internationalization of education and research in Finland, and help U.S. and Finnish institutions create linkages.
What Makes the Fulbright Finland Foundation Programs Unique?
- In addition to the grant, the Fulbright Finland Foundation offers the grantees several additional benefits and free support services, as well as access to a global, multi-professional network.
- We are looking for applicants who want to impact the future and to make a difference – applicants who want to facilitate positive change, develop and advance their own profession or discipline, and find solutions to national and international challenges in their field.
- The grantees also act as ambassadors for the Fulbright Finland Foundation, their home country, and their home organization and, in this way, do their part in sharing their home country and culture and contributing to the relations between Finland and the U.S.
The Fulbright-LUT Graduate Award program is part of the global Fulbright program operating in over 160 countries worldwide.
